Forestry Programme 2023 – 2027

The Department of Agriculture Food and Marine (DAFM) have launched the Forestry Programme 2023 – 2027. It aims to increase forestry cover by supporting the creation of new forests, supporting the management and replanting of new forests, whilst delivering ecosystem services and climate benefits.

The DAFM have targeted 8,000ha per annum broken down by 12 forest types. Annual premiums for Farmers have been extended from 15 years to 20 years, whilst significantly increasing the grant and premium rates.

There are now a total of 11 different forest types including new types such as Emergent Forests, Forests for water, Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF) and a Native Tree Area Scheme (NTA), involving the creation of small native woodlands up to 1ha in size on farms with a 10 year premium of €2,206 for NTA1 and €2,284 for NTA2.
