Considering Forestry?

The Irish Government has committed to a €670 million budget for the private forestry sector in Ireland for the period 2015-2020. This budget supports grant and premium schemes to include afforestation, native woodland establishment, woodland improvement, forest roading and neighbourwood schemes.

Western Forestry Co-op has always believed that “Forestry should complement farming – not replace it” and both farming and forestry work well together (extra income, shelter, fencing, improved drainage etc). Already 16,000 farmers have planted part of their land since 1988 and many are now reaping the harvest rewards.

From January 2015 there is no longer a farmer and non-farmer rate, anyone who decides to plant land will receive the high premium rate.
