Native Woodland Scheme

When we plant trees we do a great service for our families, our communities, future generations, the planet itself and no more so than planting a native woodland. The native woodland scheme gives every landowner the opportunity to play their part in mitigating the effects of climate change by sequestering carbon, providing our native wildlife with its natural habitats and to create the very air that we breathe and not only will it cost you nothing, the scheme will pay you a yearly tax free premium. Trees grown in their natural habitat will be of the highest value to biodiversity and nature conservation not to mention there importance to physical and mental wellness.

The Native Woodland Scheme provides financial support for landowners under two separate elements:

Element 1: Native Woodland Conservation

Provides funding for the conservation, protection and enhancement of existing native woodlands and the conversion, where appropriate, of existing non-native forests to native woodlands. Annual premium payment of €350 per hectare per year for 7 years.

Element 2: Native Woodland Establishment

Provides funding for the establishment of new native woodlands on greenfield sites.
Native Woodland Establishment is covered by the same full establishment grant as the Afforestation Grant Scheme and the highest Forest Premium rate of €665/ha for less than 10 hectares and €680/ha above 10 hectares.
